3 /5 Danielle Goudreau: I want to start by saying the staff was absolutely wonderful. They’re the reason this review is 3 stars instead of the 1 star the store itself deserves. This isn’t directed at the employees — they were great — but at the company.
This used to be my all-time favorite thrift store. As a single mom, it helped me through some tough times. I hadn’t been in for a while because we’d been doing pretty well financially, but I recently lost my job and went in looking for shoes for my toddler. His current pair is on its last leg.
I found a cute pair, but the Velcro was broken. I figured for the right price, I could take them home and try to fix them. I didn’t see any signs showing shoe prices like they have for clothes, so I asked the cashier. She told me toddler shoes — even broken ones — were $5. That was such a disappointment, so I put them back.
As I walked around, I noticed the store was clean and well organized, but the pricing was shocking. I found six different Dollar Tree items marked between $2–$5 — and I know they’re Dollar Tree because I own the exact same ones, some bought just recently. You also have to be careful with clothing; there were tons of Shein pieces for the price I could buy them new for just a dollar more.
As a lower-income family that has relied on thrift stores to get by, it’s incredibly frustrating to see prices climbing this much — especially at stores that receive their items for free. They always say the money goes to people in need, but we are the people in need, and we can’t even afford it anymore.
This store lost out on several sales today because of the pricing, and sadly, we won’t be back.
