1 /5 Sophia Sophia: I’ve read and watched a lot of others share their unpleasant shopping experiences as a person of color (Latino, black, Indian or etc). I’m ashame to say I often feel a disconnect because I’d never experienced such in all my 47 years until Black Friday. Unfortunately it was at this store. We’d already spent over $1400 (not credit but hard earned money from our great corporate jobs) shoe and boot shopping. So we made this store out last stop of the day simply because my mother visits it often. We drove from the Lake Spivey area all the way to Newnan because mom likes their selections and it’s easy traffic in this direction. The unwarranted attention started as soon as we walked in the door and it was always from one employee, the lady with the Christmas lights around her neck. At first, I was dismissive of it because I’ve NEVER been one to play or care to hear the race card used but today was definitely my first day FEELING this. Finally at checkout my mom decided to use her Loft card for the additional benefits (extra percentage off) and both (old and new) were declined. This employee came to the register to assist others and her glares, negative assumptions and body language were hideous coming from her. Mom was perplexed because of her card issue. She stepped to the side and phoned the company. The young lady assisting her was super nice and patience. The credit card company explained the old card was deactivated when they sent out the new cards and there was no attempt showing on the new card. The young lady helping mom then requested her social to pull up her account and quickly acknowledged in a “wow” response that she located it and she has PLENTY of available credit for her purchase and made the charge manually. I was soooo disgusted by the other employee (Christmas lights around her neck). I didn’t spend over $100 there because of her unwarranted closeness and hawking of us while shopping. Plus mom had a question while shopping and her tone and ambiance when answering was sooo revealing of her attitude towards us. Well we went right across the street to Lizard Thicket and our experience there was AMAZING with EVERY employee. I didn’t voice my concerns about the Loft until my daughter who attends the very expensive, elite, private, black Ivy league, Spelman College, commented that she was so ready to leave Newnan because of the “racy” feel. My mouth dropped open and asked was she referring to the Loft and she replied, “Yes mom! It was the worst!” I thanked her for being honest because I felt it too but didn’t want to say it. We will not be returning and will express to others to not spend their money here either.
