Pappy’s Trading Post - (Near Blairsville, GA)

5 /5 Amanda Major: Visiting Blairsville, Ga? Be sure to stop at Pappy’s Trading Post for some ice cream and fudge. Hot outside? They will take you on a 1.5 hour journey tubing down the river for very reasonable prices. Not all the shops were open when we stopped by in mid-September. The staff was super friendly and they have unusual gifts and collectibles. Grab a snack and a covered seat outside by the river. They even had a TV playing Little House on the Prairie, making for nice family atmosphere. Their boiled peanuts were a big hit!

5 /5 Charla Howard: Our whole family had a blast at Pappys! The tubing was perfect! The river was relaxing, clean, and not busy. It had a few "rapids" just enough for the younger kids to be excited. The tubes were good condition and had bottoms and backs, keeping everyone comfortable. They provided sticks you could use to redirect yourself if needed and ropes to tie tubes together. They do have life jackets for small children if needed. There was only one very small section of deep water. Mix of shade and sun. The float time was just over an hour. You do have to navigate a slightly steep slope to get into the river. Our group of 16 included ages 4 - 68 and everyone had a great time. Other highlights included an excellent selection of ice cream flavors and delicious boiled peanuts.

4 /5 Michael Hogue: What can I say??? Love it, but a bit sad in a way, its a glimpse into the "Old Americana", mostly circled around the late 60s and 70s. Its also (apparently) a great place to start some inexpensive "tubing" down the river. I liked it. It really reminds me of places I visited as a child in the Blueridge & Smokey Mountain Area, like "Frontier Land" and the old, very commercial Cherokee reservation when they had the concrete teepees and more. THIS place reminds me of that, and that era, a LOT. All it needs is a lot more tourists to come, help "open" up the business, but since a lot of the businesses here are closed, it becomes kind of a self-feeding cycle: not enough to "draw", and due to lack of "draw", not enough to keep the companies alive. That said, this IS a wonderful place to stop & gawk at, maybe buy a few things. "Pappys" is still open, the creek still runs, and the carp are there carping for food, which you can feed them. The residents are great, the views (for the most part) good, and the wide patios & outdoor spaces around the main building are impressive. PLUS theyve got some wonderful antiques to show off, and some to sell. This is also the place if youre on the road to get some icecream if youre passing by. I *wish* the other shops were open, but I understand why this is fading away. There are just not enough customers to support the whole "village" any more. I wish it WASNT like that, but modern days, modern appliances . . . people are in a hurry to see "the Big Stuff" at places like Gatlinburg or Pidgeon Forge. And in their rush to get by, they are missing this. Dont be one of those. IF you are on a trip, no HURRY or _real_ reason to rush, and want to make a drive a DRIVE out with the family, want to kick back, maybe have some fun, see interesting stuff and a bit of Americana (explain it to your kids!), AND want to talk & meet some interesting folks, feed some fish, walk around, stretch your legs awhile, maybe have a picnic . . . Then this is a good place to begin, and a fun stop that can be worth it, depending on your views, and attitude. A great place, in my book, worth being more.

4 /5 JCastle: I was only there during the week, so only a couple of the stores were open, but the prices were not low for many convience items. The boiled peanuts were great! And the person behind the counter was super nice. Now the fudge WAS delectable❣️, although also not cheap. They have a great map of the area with most of the interesting things put on it, We Did get one of those.
