1 /5 Jim Hodges: It seemed to me that the owner doesnt care for or respect the people that bring him his income.
Not only does he sell salvaged and heavily discounted merchandise, he also runs a mini storage lot. I stopped by to rent a standard unit. Before I filled out the application I perused the merchandise for sale. I did need a replacement ink pen and my driver wanted a fresh pair of warm gloves. The driver presented me with an opened 4 pack of different colored fine tipped pens, that had been opened and was missing one pen. And a pair of warm looking gloves. The previously opened set of pens were very reasonable, at about a buck. And, since I was after a fine tipped black ink instrument I put it on the counter, along with the gloves. The total was way more then one would expect for resale and possibly salvaged goods. Those pink yarn gloves were around ten bucks.
But I digressed only to give you an idea of what was being offered in this filthy and cluttered "Store" that seemed to be formed by tearing out the walls of a couple adjoining storage units. As a vision Impaired and legally blind Navy Vet I found the lighting, organization and Navigational access to be sub-par.
The store clerks were friendly and made me feel like a wanted and respected patron. Responded with the same jovial communication that was in tune with the seasonal (Xmas) banter and spirit. And when another customer pointed out the dollar bill I had dropped, I had no qualms whatsoever by dropping that bill in the big jar on the counter labeled "Tips", after hearing a well rehearsed "IF you drop it on the floor, put it in the tip jar". Nice, personable sales staff.
With newly acquired pen in hand, it was time to fill out the rental agreement and pay cash in advance for three months. The process was quick and easy, with the helpful instruction and explanations. I walked out the door very confident that I was going to inspect the 10×10 unit with a similar high ceiling as the makeshift "Store". Imagine my surprise when I found the unit number and discovered an 8×9 with lower ceiling and uncleaned storage unit. Not to mention that the numbering system for the units was not consecutive or orderly.
I returned to the sales counter and asked "Is there something wrong with the measuring tape? That is not a ten by ten unit." At this point the owner spoke up and said in a hostile tone "Give him his money back and tell him to get the hell out of here!"
Not only was the mans rude and confrontational attitude totally disingenuous, it leads one to wonder if this is how the man treats local residents, what is his style of representing the community and its businesses to new residents?
I am left with the opinion that this newer owner does not need, want OR appreciate the people who are willing to lower their expectations and bring Capitol and finance to an ill tempered, crass egotist who portrays the exact opposite demeanor of a for profit service provider.
