1 /5 Jane V: I visited this thrift store for the first time with my aunt, who has always spoken highly of it. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing and uncomfortable. When I asked the manager for the price of an item (since none of the clothes had price tags), she looked at me and pointed to a sign on the wall, saying, “All of our prices are on the wall — they’re in Spanish and English.” I had asked her in English, so the comment felt unnecessary and dismissive. While waiting in line, a Spanish-speaking customer was using a translator, and the manager continued making comments about language differences instead of being patient and respectful. When it was my aunt’s turn to check out, I asked if the store was church-based, and the manager said it was faith-based. I then mentioned that she shouldn’t assume someone’s language based on their appearance. Instead of simply acknowledging that, she responded sarcastically, saying, “I didn’t mean to offend you, I just want to help all of our customers,” even though I had spoken to her clearly in English. She then called me “sweetheart” in a condescending tone and claimed I was being disrespectful. The interaction became even more upsetting when she said I wasn’t understanding her because of our different “cultures.” That comment was completely uncalled for and made me feel singled out because of my skin color. It’s disappointing to have such an experience in a place that identifies as faith-based. I won’t be returning, and neither will my aunt, who has been a loyal customer for years. Respect and kindness should be shown to everyone, regardless of how they look or what language they speak.

5 /5 Lauren Bouziane: This is the best thrift shop in Ellis County yet. Ive been thrifting between Waxahachie and Midlothian since I was a kid. Ive seen secondhand shops come and go, and many that have stayed have had to raise their prices and/or limit their hours considerably. They also accept donations and have a little free food pantry out front sometimes. This shop has a good selection every time Ive been in, and their prices are almost always reasonable and the cheapest youll find nowadays. Its small, but packed and maintained well. The items arent junky or broken and stained. Theres a counter with jewelry and higher end items at the registers, a shelf and rack of nicer shoes and bags, a shelf full of purses, totes, wallets, and backpacks. Racks of clothes for men and women and bins for the kiddos. Theres home decor, electronics, books, movies, CDs, toys, video games, craft supplies, etc. As an expecting mom, I come here frequently to dig through the baby and kids stuff and always walk out with something. Theres a reward stamp card you receive the first time you spend $10, but because their prices are low for the items Im getting, I seldom hit $10, lol; however, after several visits and stamps achieved, you will get a discount off your next purchase. On top of that, the volunteers who run it are incredibly kind and thoughtful; the Love Your Neighbor ministry really does a lot to help the Hachie community, whether its free food trucks or events to help folks with career needs or prayer. As a hijabi, theyre always so kind to me and I do love a good prayer. As the economy gets harder to live in and our family grows, little local shops like these that help ease your pockets are essential; and the genuinely loving ministry that drives this place even more so.

5 /5 L H: It’s such a great little place to shop. Lots of parking and so cool during the summer. Been coming here since I found it. Great jeans, Ts, hats, stuff for the kids, unique pieces for the home. Very friendly and organized. Great prices and gives back to so many in the community. Thank you !
