1 /5 Steph T: I was very disappointed with the service I received during my recent visit to your York location. This is the second time I have had a negative experience at this store and unfortunately it will be my last.
Upon entering, I was greeted by an associate who opened with “What do you need?” rather than the usual warm welcome I’ve come to expect from Chico’s. Throughout my visit, the level of service continued to fall short. I carried nine items around the store before asking her to start a fitting room for me. When I picked up additional items, she asked if I wanted them added and then simply told me I could use the room on the right when I was ready. Despite the store being empty, she did not walk me to the fitting room or check in on me until I was done trying on my items.
After trying everything on, I walked around the store with everything in my hands (2 pairs of jean and 2 sets of pajamas) waiting to check out. Two associates were working and both were engaged in conversation with the one customer making a return at the register as though she were a long lost friend. No one offered to assist me, hold my items or even acknowledge me.
When I approached the counter, the associate asked, “Now, can I look in the bag?” rather than offering to take the items I intended to purchase while I showed her what I was returning. I agreed, but she then made a rude comment that made me decide I no longer wished to complete my exchange or purchase. I asked for my return back and attempted to leave, but instead of simply handing it to me, she came toward me and insisted she had been “joking,” asking why I couldn’t take a joke. When I responded that I did not wish to be joked with, she replied, “Oh, honey…” in a condescending tone. She also continued to explain why I was wrong in my feelings when all I wanted to do was leave.
I do not choose to spend my money in places where I am not valued, especially when I see other customers being treated warmly while I am left standing with my items ignored and dismissed. This experience was disrespectful and far from the level of service I expect from Chico’s.
