1 /5 Ms. Good: Customer service
Customer service doesn’t just end with a purchase when you are in the retail business, even if your policy is no refunds or in store credit only. Which I find distasteful in the first place.
I entered into Island Styles to purchase a pair of shoes for work, I am a waitress. I came to Island Styles because I knew they carried the brand that comes highly recommended for slip resistance.
While I was there I purchased other products 2 blouses 2 pairs of pants & earrings my total purchase was well over $400
That evening I wore the shoes to work and as I was walking into the kitchen I slipped and twisted my hip, preventing myself from hitting the floor I grabbed on to the counter, I was shocked to say the least, I worn the shoe most of the night, I kept slipping and almost falling, so I took them off and boxed them back up the shoes were $145.
I went back the next day Friday to return them at around 11 o’clock the store wasn’t open, then I returned on Sunday the store wasn’t open, no signs are posted when they are open, just a sign saying “closed but we are still great”. I disagree- A store that is great at least post hours.
Well I finally went back again today Wednesday, March 31st 2021 around 12 noon, I was greeted by a full figured women with dark brown hair with a bob style cut.
When I told her I wanted a refund she said she could only provide me with in-store credit, I said I wanted a refund I was sold a defaulted product, I explained why I came to the store in the first place and why I was looking for those shoes, the women then said she could still only give me store credit, I asked her if she was the owner she stated “no”- then asked if I wanted to wait for the owner I said no, she could only give me in store credit, I said fine but I would do a review on the store.
She then credited my credit card back and said she would take it up with the owner, here is what I have an issue with she looked at me and said “You know these shoe are highly recommended and are the best, maybe you didn’t wear them long enough. That they have never had any issues with those shoes.
My thought is how could you, you have a standing policy no refunds.
I am 52 years old and I’m decent shape, I don’t want to try something again that obviously didn’t meet my safety needs.
I am not some young uneducated person where you can talk down to me and get away with it, I have class and if I wasn’t a good women this review would state how I felt about the women who processed my refund and it wouldn’t be kind to say the lease.
Did she handle my request yes, did she provide good customer service no she was rude with her tone, body language and her words were demeaning.
Will I return to this store no because I don’t have time for rude employees or volunteers and if Island Styles doesn’t understand the value of customer service as little as having a signs stating hours then they obviously aren’t customers service minded.
It’s unfortunate because my first interaction was very favorable even though the shoes didn’t meet my safety needs the sales person was pleasant.
