1 /5 Michael LaPointe: I have visited Kohls a few times this year, as recently as yesterday, for a simple button-down shirt for an interview. The rack was filled with Small, Medium, and XXL, but no Large or XL. Frustrating, to say the least. After a few minutes of looking, I found an associate to see if they might have additional stock elsewhere. She went to find a scanner, and fifteen minutes later I found her working a register. While waiting for that associate, I saw a manager walking the store with two employees, none of whom offered a simple greeting. But at least they have a ton of Christmas junk all over the store, so yeah, priorities.
Also while waiting, I started looking at other shirts, and found that the absence of Large and XL seems to be the norm, as there were incredibly few items available in those sizes. When I got to the counter to purchase a tie, the cashier asked if Id found what I was looking for. I expressed my frustration at the absence of the size I needed, and her response was "Theyre feeding you too much." Im 61" - I need shirts that are XL, and its no reflection on my diet. What a ridiculous thing to say.
At best, Kohls is blowing it by overstocking on sizes no one is buying, and understocking on what is obviously selling, at least when it comes to menswear. At worst, theyve given up and no longer care about the customers. The store has been on a significant decline for several years, so this wasnt just a one-time thing. Whatever the case, I dont think Ill be back anytime soon.
