2 /5 Melanie and Jeremy Joslin: This was my first time going into a Belk and Im not impressed. The store was very disorganized and messy. Maybe its bc we went in after Christmas? The selection was not good imo. It felt like a rich grandma store and thats who we saw walking around in the store.
The boys/mens dressing room was very dirty. The bumper baseboard was pulled and torn off the wall. There Hole in the carpet. It looked like it hasnt been vacuumed in a hot min as there stuff all over the floor and it smelled. It seriously look like a dog had chewed on the baseboard and shredded it all over the floor.
And the checkout is on the right side of the store instead of in the middle of towards the front. Unsure if that is standard Belk design or just this location.
But what was very unwelcoming was the checkout. There was 3 cashiers and customers at each register. On the right side, here was 1 person standing behind the customer being checked out. I stood behind the customers being checked out on the right as thats the way I walked over to the cash register as I assumed the checkout was upfront. My husband even said, are we in line bc I feel like we are not. We looked around and saw no indication of why we should not stand directly behind the customer being checked out. I stood there for another 10 mins or so. It might have been 15 mins bc the checkout process was as slow as Chesitmas. And another customer walked up and went to stand behind the customer on the right. THEN the cashier tells me, "maam, the line is over there. You can stand behind her (customer who arrived AFTER me)" There was NO indication the line was on the right. I now was 3rd in line when I should have been second. The cashier and the customer 2nd in line KNEW I SHOULD have been the best customer helped even if I was standing in the wrong spot. And if there is going to be a line location, have it marked. I have suspisciouns as to why the cashier waited until the other woman walked up to tell me to get behind her but I cant prove it now is it worth fighting over. At this point, my husband said, "I dont even want the shirt anymore. Lets go." I was irritated but the shirt looked very good on him and wanted to get it so we waited longer. Bottom line is, the experience was unpleasant and rude. We didnt feel welcome.
We will probably not be going back to this location. And unsure if I will check out other Belk locations either. The prices were high, even on sale, and wasnt impressed witht the selection.
